Animals in Advertisement
The PG Tips Chimps were used in an advertisement of PG Tips
teabags. In this commercial they were dressed up in adult clothes and wore wigs.
They also performed human activities such as answering the phone, drinking tea
and other activities.
From being born the chimpanzee’s which feature in the adverts were treat like humans and not chimps, this meant that they never learnt how to be a chimpanzee and then when it came to their retirement, they did not understand what do and it made them stressed. When they were enclosed with other chimps which acted in a normal nature, the chimps from the advertisement didn’t know what to do as they didn’t know how to express natural behaviours. It also made the chimps stressed due to the change of life when they retired as they were expected to know how to act normal. The welfare of the upkeep of the animals was good as they were free from hunger and thirst due to them being looked after very well and so they were also free from discomfort as they were provided with shelter.
